The Thy-camp 1970

The summer camp in Thy that changed Danish society forever

On a field near Frøstrup in Thy the association “The New Society” established a summer camp in 1970, that during two to three months was visited by around 7,000 people. The goal was to explore alternative forms of personal interaction in order to discover new models for society. In the wake of the Thy Camp followed the 70’s explosion of lifestyle experimentation: Christiania, Project “Hus” and collective communities across the country. The Danish society was changed forever. Completely in keeping with the spirit of the project, the movie is recorded as a collective improvisation. In the soundtrack, Leif Varmark from “The New Society” comments upon the perspectives of the lessons that were gained that summer in Thy.
